About Hamsa Info
An independent, non-commercial resource devoted to the science of Kriya Yoga and the wisdom of the Indian spiritual tradition.
Clear, in-depth, and freely available information about Kriya Yoga is surprisingly hard to find. The teachings are scattered across out-of-print books, fragments of lectures, and the oral tradition passed quietly from teacher to student. Newcomers often meet either vague inspiration with no substance, or material locked behind paywalls and membership requirements.
Hamsa Info was created to help close that gap: to gather the history, the scriptures, the masters, and the core practices of the Kriya path into one place, explained carefully and offered freely to anyone who is sincerely seeking.
What you will find here
The Kriya lineage and its masters
The lives and teachings of the realised gurus who carried this science forward, from Mahavatar Babaji to the teachers of the present day.
The scriptures
The Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata, examined for their practical spiritual meaning rather than as mere literature or mythology.
The wisdom of the tradition
The deities, the avatars, and the great cycles of time — the yugas — understood as a symbolic language pointing toward inner realisation.
The practice and philosophy of Kriya Yoga
The principles of breath, energy, and meditation that make this a science of self-realisation rather than a belief system.
The lineage this site draws from
Kriya Yoga as it is known today was revived in the modern age by the deathless master Mahavatar Babaji and brought to householders through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya. From Lahiri Mahasaya the teaching passed to Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri — author of The Holy Science — and on to Paramahansa Yogananda, whose Autobiography of a Yogi introduced Kriya to the wider world.
The lineage continued through masters such as Bhupendranath Sanyal Mahasaya, Swami Satyananda Giri, Paramahamsa Hariharananda, and Paramahamsa Prajnanananda, and lives on in teachers including Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath and his message of Earth Peace through Self Peace.
How this site is researched
The aim is reliability, not invention. Articles are built from primary sources wherever possible — the masters’ own books and recorded talks, and the traditional scriptures themselves — supplemented by reputable secondary scholarship. Where a point is interpretive or disputed, it is presented as interpretation rather than fact. Where traditions differ, the differences are noted rather than smoothed over.
This is a living resource. Articles are revised and expanded as understanding deepens and as better sources come to light.
A non-commercial commitment
Hamsa Info carries no advertising, sells no courses, and asks for no membership. The teachings of the realised masters were given freely, and this resource is offered in that same spirit. Its only purpose is to make the Kriya path clearer and more accessible to those drawn to it.
