Swami Satyananda Giri
A devoted monk of the Kriya Yoga lineage, a close friend of Yogananda, and a scholar who preserved the authentic history of the tradition.
Swami Satyananda Giri (1896–1971) was a distinguished monk of the Kriya Yoga lineage, a disciple of Swami Sri Yukteswar and a close friend and brother-disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda.
A Lifelong Friendship
Satyananda and Yogananda were intimate friends from their school days, and together they shared the early years of spiritual training. When Yogananda founded his first school for boys at Ranchi — blending modern education with yoga and meditation — it was Satyananda who took on much of its leadership, guiding the institution for many years.
A Monk and Teacher
Initiated into the ancient Swami order, Satyananda Giri devoted his life to teaching Kriya Yoga and to writing. He authored a number of valuable works, including biographical accounts of Lahiri Mahasaya and Sri Yukteswar, helping to preserve the authentic history and teaching of the lineage for future generations.
His Legacy
Swami Satyananda Giri is remembered for his deep realisation, his organisational devotion, and his loyal friendship within the great fellowship of disciples around Sri Yukteswar. His writings remain a trusted source for those who wish to know the lineage from the inside.
