The Seven Lokas
The Hindu cosmology describes seven planes of existence, known as the Lokas or worlds. These are not merely physical locations in outer space, but distinct levels of consciousness through which the soul journeys on its path to…
The Seven Lokas
Bhuloka — The Physical World
The plane of gross matter where we experience birth, death, and the play of the elements. Most human consciousness operates at this level, identified with the body and senses.
Bhuvarloka — The Astral World
The plane of subtle energy and emotion, inhabited by spirits, departed souls, and beings of the astral realm. The Kriya practitioner begins to access this world through deep meditation.
Svarloka — The Celestial World
The heaven realms of great beauty and pleasure, where beings enjoy the fruits of their positive karma. Indra's celestial city Amaravati exists here.
Maharloka — The World of Saints
The realm of highly evolved beings and sages who have transcended the lower worlds. Here reside the masters who guide humanity's spiritual evolution.
Janarloka — The World of Creators
The plane of cosmic administrators and creators, the Prajapatis who fashion the forms of manifestation. Very few beings operate consciously at this level.
Taparloka — The World of Liberated Beings
The realm of beings who have attained liberation from the cycle of birth and death, existing in pure consciousness beyond all manifestation.
Satyaloka — The World of Absolute Truth
The highest plane, where Brahman alone exists in pure, undifferentiated consciousness. This is the ultimate destination of the spiritual journey — the state of complete Self-realisation.
The Journey Through the Lokas
The Kriya practice of Inner Baptism in Om (Om Kriya) guides the practitioner through each of these planes, purifying the consciousness at each level until the soul reaches its true home in Satyaloka. This journey is described in detail in the ancient yogic texts and is experienced directly by the advanced practitioner.
The Inner Journey
These seven worlds are not external destinations to be reached by travel, but internal states of consciousness to be realised through spiritual practice. The Kriya yogi journeys through all seven Lokas within their own being.
The Kriya Connection
Each round of Kriya practice takes the practitioner through all seven chakras, which correspond to the seven Lokas. As the energy rises from the Muladhara to the Sahasrara, the consciousness ascends from Bhuloka to Satyaloka.
