What Is Enlightenment? Freedom from the Mind

Enlightenment is not a belief, a philosophy, or a mystical state reserved for a chosen few. It is the direct recognition of your true nature — the realisation that you are not the body, not the mind, not the personality, but…

What Enlightenment Is Not

Before understanding what enlightenment is, it helps to clear up common misconceptions:

Not a Feeling

Enlightenment is not a euphoric state or a perpetual high. Feelings come and go. Enlightenment is the unchanging awareness in which feelings arise and subside.

Not a Power

Psychic abilities, healing powers, and supernatural phenomena have nothing to do with enlightenment. Many enlightened beings display no special powers; many unenlightened beings display remarkable ones.

Not an Achievement

You do not become enlightened. You realise that enlightenment is what you already are. It is not added to you; it is revealed when the obstacles are removed.

What Enlightenment Is

Enlightenment is the dissolution of the illusion of separateness. It is the recognition that:

💫

You Are Not the Body

The body is an instrument, a vehicle. You are the consciousness that uses it, not the form itself.

🌈

You Are Not the Mind

The mind is a tool, a computer. You are the awareness that observes the mind's activity, not the thoughts themselves.

✨

You Are the Self

What remains when body and mind are seen through is pure, infinite consciousness — the Self, the Atman, one with Brahman.

Freedom from the Mind

The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. In the unenlightened state, the mind controls us — we believe every thought, follow every impulse, suffer every anxiety. In enlightenment, the mind becomes a tool that we use when needed and set aside when not. We are free.

"Before enlightenment, I used to be depressed. After enlightenment, I continue to be depressed. But that depression is swallowed up in something much larger — the presence that watches it." — Adapted from traditional teaching

How Kriya Yoga Leads to Enlightenment

Kriya Yoga is a systematic method for removing the veils that obscure the Self. Through pranayama, meditation, and the guru's grace, the practitioner progressively:

1

Purifies

Cleanses the body, mind, and energy system of accumulated impurities.

2

Concentrates

Develops one-pointed focus, gathering the scattered mind.

3

Meditates

Dives deep into the inner silence where the Self reveals itself.

4

Realises

The veils drop, and the truth that was always present is seen.

It Is Your Birthright

Enlightenment is not reserved for a chosen few. It is the birthright of every human being. The only requirement is sincere practice and the guidance of a realised master. Kriya Yoga provides the path. Will you walk it?
